have taken significant effort, but you can reduce the effort substantially by using the Show and Hide Pop-Up Menu behaviors. To get started with this functionality, follow these steps: 1. Continuing with the sample.htm page you've been working with in this chapter, place your cursor just after the previous Set Text in Status Bar button and press Enter. 2. Insert a new hyperlink by choosing the Hyperlink option from the Insert menu. The Hyperlink dialog appears. 3. In the Text text box, enter About Us > . Also enter the # symbol in the Link text box and click OK. The new hyperlink appears on the page. 4. Select the hyperlink and choose the Show Pop-Up Menu Behavior from the Add (+) menu in the Behaviors panel. The Show Pop-Up Menu dialog appears. NOTE Unlike other Dreamweaver behaviors, the Show Pop-Up Menu behavior cannot be attached to Button form objects. This behavior supports images and hyperlinks only. The Show Pop-Up Menu dialog is divided into four distinct areas represented by tabs, all of which constitute an important part of the functionality or look of the pop-up menu. For instance, you'll add the text elements your pop-up menu will contain using the Content tab. You can customize the look of the pop-up menu in the Appearance and Advanced tabs. Finally, you can set the positioning of the pop-up menu in relation to the element that is causing the pop-up menu to expand using the Position tab. Here is a breakdown of functionality exposed on these tabs, beginning with the Content tab: Menu: Icons in this list let you add elements to and remove elements from the pop-up menu. Beyond that, you can use the Indent and Outdent icons to nest an element within another element, effectively creating a second pop-up menu. Finally, you can use the repositioning icons to move elements either up or down in the list. Text: Enter the text label of the element in this text box. Link: Enter the URL path that will link the text label in this text box. Target: Select from one of the four targets in this menu to set the window location in which the path should open. Element list: Use this list box as a visual aid when adding, removing, indenting, outdenting, and repositioning elements in your pop-up menu. For our example, let's add eight elements by clicking the Add (+) icon eight times and adding the text Overview, History, Management, Ferris, Agnes, Herbert, Pat, and Contact Us for each element as it's added. I'm assuming that you've already acquired the skills required to create links, so we'll leave the Link and Target menus blank for now. So far, the interface should resemble Figure 10.23. Figure 10.23. Add eight elements to the pop-up menu. For the second, third, and fourth names, you might have to click the Indent Item icon and then immediately click the Outdent Item icon to line all the names up under the Management section. The results resemble Figure 10.24. Figure 10.24. Indent the four managers under the Management element. This effectively creates another pop-up menu. [View full size image]
